| I. OBJECTIVES |

- Clarifying that the foundational principle in Islaam
is a call to unity and firm adherence to the Qur’aan
and Sunnah.
- Emphasizing that division is always the product of extremism
and deviant thought.
- Awareness of ancient sects which appeared in Muslim history
enables the student to understand the present and the historical
roots of contemporary sects.
- Providing the student with an historical background of
destructive roles played by deviant sects during Islamic
history.
