‘AQEEDAH: ISLAMIC CREED SUFISM

| I. OBJECTIVES |

- Providing the student with an understanding of the reality
of Sufism and the means to pass an impassioned judgment
on it.
- Making students aware of the difference between subjects
and issues which have their source in the Qur’aan
and Sunnah and what is innovation (bid‘ah) and outside
the bounds of Islaam.

The branches of Islamic Sufism: i.
Sunni Sufism: Its definition and characteristics ii.
Philosophical Sufism: Its definition and characteristics
6. Sufi concepts in interpretation of texts
7. Examples of Leading Sunni Sufis: al-Haarith
al-Muhaasibee, al-Junayd and al-Ghazzaalee 8.
Examples of some leading philosophical Sufis: Aboo Yazeed al-Bustaamee
and the concept of fanaa; al-Hasanee ibn Mansoor al-Hallaaj
and the concept of hulool; Ibn ‘Arabee and the concept
of wahdat al-Wujood 9. Description of the
Most important Sufi Tareeqs: Qaadiriyyah, Shaathiliyyah, Rifaa‘iyyah,
Naqshabandiyyah, Mawlawiyyah
