DA‘WAH AND ISLAMIC CULTUREPUBLIC SPEAKING AND DEBATE (60 Hours)

I. OBJECTIVES
 

This programme aims at enabling speakers to convey their message across a variety of audience with confidence, conviction and rationale. The course spreads over 50 hours of theory and practice lessons simultaneously. At the end of this course a student is expected to achieve the following goals:

1. Be able to face and speak confidently to a variety of audience.
2. Be able to organize and prepare speeches as per the audience requirements.
3. Be able to use audio-visual props in speech.
4. Be able to debate, argue, discuss, inform and persuade with conviction

a. Acquainting the student with public speaking, its importance and the fact that it is the most ancient form of communication.
b. Exposing the student to the different styles of public speaking and types of speeches.
c. Clarifying the characteristics of the effective speaker in order for the Muslim missionary to adopt them.
d. Practical training on communicating to the masses.

II. CLASS CONTENT
Third Year
A. Theoretical Aspects
  1. Defining Public Speaking
2. Identifying its Goals, Importance and the difference between it and other forms of expression
3. A Brief Historical Account of Public Speaking in the time of Ignorance and in the Beginning of Islaam
4. Types of Speeches and their Components
     a. Types: Religious, Political, Jihadist, Occasion Based
     b. Components: Introduction, Presentation, Choice of Modes and Educational Aids, and Conclusion
5. Characteristics of the Speaker
6. Special Characteristics of the Method of Speaking
7. The Current State of Public Speaking
8. State of Today’s Khateeb
9. Factors to Upgrade Public Speaking
B. Discussion and Debate
  1. The Definition of Each
2. Goals and Importance in Islaam
3. Their conditions and the etiquette of Discussion
C. Practical Aspects
  50% of the time allotted for this class used in practically training the student in mosques and on social occasions.
